This is one of our favorite places to go to downtown Green Bay. The staff is always very attentive and friendly. The rolls are great... We have tried plenty of different ones off the menu, but definitely have our favorites that we stick to now (like Red Dragon... and even the simpler Shrimp Tempura). The bento boxes come with miso soup and are very big... We would share one along with ordering one roll and be completely stuffed! And I loooove their own ginger salad dressing! The atmosphere is very nice in the restaurant, quaint and welcoming. Great for takeout too!

My friend and her son brought me here when I was up for a visit. We ordered mostly rolls. Every one we tried was extremely good. Very fresh, high quality fish. It is not the most beautiful sushi establishment I've been in but if it does the food right, what more do you need? I will keep this place in mind the next time I'm in GB.

I've been back here a few times since before and the food has been consistently good and the service amazing, also it is the best sushi in Green Bay. Had to upgrade the rating. Definitely a solid place to eat out, we'll be back more often!

Expensive Bad Japanese food. Do not eat here. The Sushi is small, and badly made. How do you screw up Sushi? Here's how: rice that's not cooked well, rolls that have so little fish in it that you taste only the seaweed. The Udon Tempura was not any better. The soup that only contained noodles, and instant soup mix (ramen) loaded with Soy Sauce. The tempura was (mostly sweet potato and one shrimp) was limp, and soaked with oil.

As a transplant from Seattle, I thought the place was okay. Madison has a better sushi place for comparable prices. I'm saddened to think that Little Tokyo is the best the upper 2/3 of the state has to offer. I'm sorry, but 'Best sushi place in town' isn't saying much. That's like saying the East town mall is the best mall in Green Bay (proper).

I have been a Little Tokyo customer for six or seven years (before they had a second room). I'm shocked to see so many negative reviews for this place. This is my go-to place to grab dinner with my dad when I'm in town (and so he can pick up the bill). The service is always great. I've had a variety of waiters and they've always been attentive and friendly. I've never had to wait an unfair amount of time for my order. I enjoy the decor. I start my meal off with some tea (duh). As far as appetizers go, the vegetable tempura is my fave. My pops likes the octopus salad, but it's hit or miss for me. The crab rangoons are a good call too, with more of a crab flavor than cream cheese (bonus points for that). Miso soup and seaweed salad, staples of Japanese food, are also satisfactory. My entree almost always consists of a couple rolls. I usually don't do anything too adventurous (i.e. the house specials), but I've had them in the past and have not been disappointed. The unagi, river, and Philly rolls are some of my faves. I stray from the spicy rolls because the sauce they use is horseradish based (I think?), rather than sriracha which is what I'm used to. On the other hand, my dad goes for the bento boxes. They might be the best deals on the menu. My dad's a big guy who can eat a lot, and he still gives a good portion of his food to me. He tries a new one everytime, which means I usually get to try it too. I tried his shrimp teriyaki last time, and it was delicious. In conclusion, WHY DO YOU ALL HATE THIS PLACE???? Stop it right now. Give it another go.

I was in town and decided to give GB sushi a go. I was happy with the portion sizes and the food was good overall. I'd definitely consider going back when I'm in town.

I love this place, the owner is very friendly and the staff is great. The selection is fresh and tasty. Even if you're not in the mood for sushi there is a good selection of other authentic choices. Nice place to have a couple of after work drinks.

The restaurant looked empty from the outside but there were plenty of people. Cute atmosphere! Very good and fresh sushi! Prices are very reasonable. They have a cute seating area on the other side. I defiantly would return again!

Best sushi in Green Bay. We love amy and little Tokyo. We went to another nearby sushi place and my seven year old wanted to go back to little Tokyo. Some places try to be yuppie rather than serving good food and providing friendly service. This place has the whole package.

This was the worst place I ever ate at. Don't even bother spending your money. The soup was so fishy that I couldn't eat it. The salad dressing was horrible. My husband had the sea bass and it wasn't even sea bass. The California roll I have had better in a grocery store. The vegetable tempera was the only thing good. Even the coke was watered down and gross. They took 1/2 off of my husbands meal and the bill was still almost $60.

I'm not giving this place 5 stars because I am related to the owner I'm giving this place 5 stars because it's what this place deserves. Okay yes this place isn't an authentic sushi joint but WHAT THE HELL? It's as good as it gets... especially in greenbay, winsconsin... I mean yes they may play korean music at times, (hahaha) but you don't know that! I love how they make their sushi here. Sushi again is supposed to be small (for some of you out there who expect big sushi pieces... typical americans). I love the amount of rice they use (not too much) and I love the flavor that each individual roll has. They don't all just end up tasting the same. Other than that the service is always also great there. Everytime I go visit it's always poppin' and I feel like this place deserves it's established name in the sushi business.

I've had their food twice now and am convinced: this place gets it right. Fresh fish. Cool staff. Good drinks. Solid atmosphere. And most important: excellent eel. I will be back. I'll bring friends. And I'll recommend it to everybody. Thanks for keeping it real.

As far as I know, Little Tokyo is the only sushi place in Green Bay open for lunch. Overall, their sushi is as good as any of the other places in town. Atmosphere is nice, and the place seems clean. We'll be back!

This is my favorite Sushi in Green Bay. It is not the prettiest place but it is the most authentic. This is where people that are in the know get sushi. Enjoy!

It's unfortunate that Ian G was offended by the "oriental font" chosen by the proprietor of Little Tokyo and the fact that they serve Crab Rangoon. I guess it speaks to the Midwestern culture. In order to survive in a restaurant landscape that is dominated by the basket of buffalo wings, Amy Lee, the owner (and authentic Asian, despite her Rangoons) chose to throw in some comforting staples for diners who might be irked by the idea of raw fish. She wouldn't have to do that in a more cosmopolitan location, but these are the concessions you must make to have been the first sushi restaurant in Green Bay and still be profitable after five years. But let's talk about what really matters: The menu is diverse, the fish is fresh, and Amy is an accomplished sushi chef. Her rolls are creative and always make me happy. She's got spider rolls, deliciously fresh toro and albacore sashimi, and makes the best clear soup that is full of white pepper and oh so delicious. The wasabi is real, not green colored horseradish. The restaurant is a charmingly shabby (she built the place using second-hand and used booths and tables, so things don't match) but clean and doesn't have that fishy smell that hits you when you walk into other sushi restaurants (KoKos in GB comes to mind). Yelpers know that what matters isn't a few items on the menu (or the font the menu is printed in) but the overall experience. Little Tokyo is, as Alex G mentioned in his review, not comparable to the best sushi place in Japan, or even San Francisco, but for the Midwest, it's definitely the best I've had in Wisconsin--including Katsuya, an establishment Ian G. hasn't yelped, so I assume he hasn't actually eaten there and is basing this distinction on someone else's opinion. A bonus is that the sushi at Little Tokyo is priced just a smidge over grocery store sushi. For great sushi at a great price, I think I can withstand the font used on the sign out front.

Our favorite Sushi restaurant in Green Bay, and one of our favorite overall restaurants in town. Amy, the owner and Sushi chef, is very pleasant and serves some of the best food in town. Her special rolls are always creative and delicious. Try the soft shell crab or the eel rolls. The decor and ambiance are spartan but comfortable. We like the Ahi Tuna appetiser and the Fried Banana desert with chocolate sauce. For a special treat, let Amy put together a "Sushi Boat" for your table. By no means cheap, but for a special occasion worth the price.

This isn't the same as in big coastal cities, but it's quite good for a smallish city in the midwest. It's affordable, too. Not to mention they play awesome instrumental music (Disney covers, Titanic).

  • Tabatha R.

I would say it's the best sushi place in town. The decor is cozy, not tacky like kokos. The fish is always fresh and delicious - the bloody marys are made with wasabi - it hits the spot.

We were a bit disappointed in this place after hearing so many people say how good the sushi was. It was ok, and now a few hours later it feels like it's sitting a bit heavy in the belly. I've definitely had better. I think we'll stick to Nakashima...

Little Tokyo is a tour de force of sushi -- just kidding! Really, as Heidi Julavits once wrote in the New York Times, "You must play to a culture's strengths and not order a cataplana of paella when in Green Bay, Wis." Her article was about Japanese food, so maybe she even had Little Tokyo in mind when she wrote that. Remember that "oriental font" that Chinese restaurant names used to be in? Little Tokyo's got that. They also serve the quintessential midwestern non-Asian dish, Crab Rangoon. Only their menu spells it "crab ragoon." The food was passable, it just wasn't very Japanese. You can get better sushi in Appleton (I hear) at Katsu-Ya, "the best sushi in the whole Fox Hills area."

This review is primarily a response to the other reviewer. Either Ian G. was having a bad night or Little Tokyo was. I have eaten here many times, and while I have had better sushi elsewhere, elsewhere was usually New York, Chicago, San Francisco, or some other very large city. Note that Ian G. lives in San Francisco. Little Tokyo serves up the best sushi in Green Bay, and when you live here, that's what matters. After all, nothing in the United States is going to compare to the best sushi in Japan. What I like about Little Tokyo is that the food is simple and well prepared. There aren't any gimmicks.

I'm in agreement with Wendy B. I've traveled a lot and have had excellent sushi on the East Coast, West Coast, and in the various metropolis' I've been to where one can expect near perfect sushi. I also am very well aware that one would have to shell out many clams (I couldn't resist the pun) to eat the sushi. I'm happy to say that LIttle Tokyo is the best sushi I've had anywhere in the northern 2/3 of the state. I've had one better in Chicago and paid almost 3 times as much. Enjoy the sushi here, realize that we live in the Midwest - Green Bay, Appleton, or Oshkosh perhaps and we do have just a little of what the big cities can offer. If it's not perfect, well then jump on a plane and head off to wherever it is that makes you happy. As for me, I'll keep coming to Little Tokyo when I'm in Green Bay.

I went to here at like 9:30 at night so they might have been wanting to close and just get done with work...but I felt the sushi was OK. The rice was still hard in my rolls and just not done correctly. I did enjoy the nagori saki..yummy I have not had good Saki recently and this one hit the spot! chilled and all

This place is always busy during lunch, but dead for dinner. My husband and I decided to try it for lunch last week. The only roll that was good was the eel roll. Everything else either had too much of one ingredient (jalapeno peppers) or not enough flavor. I don't see us trying this place again unless they get a new menu and new chefs.

One of the worst dinners I have ever had. All of the dishes were overly salty and utterly devoid of flavor. Service was slow and indifferent. I would avoid this restaurant if you are looking for good Japanese food.

I have always enjoyed Little Tokyo, they have a very authentic style atmosphere and the sushi has always been good for the price. They are more timely with their food preparation than Koko and have better quality sushi than Nakashima, so it is the best of both worlds. The owner is always there and makes the sushi, she is very nice. The Roe Bowl is excellent!

Nice place. Booths would comfortably fit six people, if needed, and the restaurant is a good place to lounge for conversation. Tables are also available, and for a more serene experience, plenty of seats surround the sushi bar. The Sushi is very nice, the portions are just as sushi should be, and they do have a great variety to choose from. However, they dont seem to offer a whole lot for meals, but I only saw the lunch menu. I did try the yaki soba because it's one of my favorite dishes in a restaurant back home, but it didnt impress. The noodles seemed oily, and the sauce was sweeter than what I'm used to. It did have a decent amount of veggies, but nothing to brag about. Overall, this place is very worthwhile for sushi. Stop in for a few rolls, relax, and enjoy some time there with a friend =)

I actually had to laugh at some of these reviews! Some people have to remember this is authentic Japanese sushi. The owner trained in Japan! So before you say it doesn't have flavor or it doesn't look right or anything else. You have to realize this is authentic unlike most Japanese restaurants within the US. This is the real deal. With that being said get used to having sushi you won't see at other places prepared as if you were in Japan. I love the tempura it's done perfectly. The soup I can't stop eating, it has so much flavor. Their noodle dish is very good I love the fresh veggies in it. They're slightly cooked leaving a lot of good flavor. I've never been disappointed. The staff and the owner are very friendly. I've also gone to an event here. The food and service was great. This is a really good place to try, they have a cool sushi menu! Check it out!

Little Tokyo has the best sushi in Green Bay. The fish is always fresh and the variety of rolls is great. The crab rangoons are a great meal starter. The chicken teriyaki & sesame chicken are also delicious if you don't want sushi. They do takeout, of sushi or the warm chicken meals, and neither disappoint.

Little Tokyo is my go to place for sushi. I don't usually get rolls and I find the fish to be very fresh. I feel I can trust that I will only be served the freshest fish here, that's important to me. I usually order the same things, surf clam, tobiko and some other random piece. The tobiko is nicely heavy on the roe. We just ate there for lunch on valentines day 2013 and had the same waitress we've had several times (the one with dreadlocks). She's very knowledgeable about the food she serves, polite without being pandering and all around a pleasant person to have waiting on our table. I always go with someone that isn't a sushi person but the alternatives to the sushi that are on the menu always work for him (sesame chicken). Not crazy about the martini's.

Worst "Japanese" restaurant experience ever! Don't think they know what real Japanese food is. Stay away! Agadashi tofu was just a bunch of little pieces of just fried tofu, and the sauce was terrible. There soup had way to much pepper in it. Their "grilled" "whole" squid was like steamed round squid rings ( looked like the frozen calamari rings). Waitress said it was a whole squid. "Didn't respond when asked were the head and tenticles were? Sushi was grocery store quality. There noodles were bland, no taste. When we told the waitress how bad the food was, she seemed uninterested. Then returned and asked if we wanted the stuff we didn't eat boxed up. What? We just told you how terrible it was. Luckly this was the only bad expereince on our trip to the Appleton/Green Bay area. But we will definately stick to eating in Appleton from now on.

The first thing my wife and I noticed as we were seated, was the fact that there was Korean music playing in the restaurant. Seeing how my wife is Korean and I was born there, made it this place even more appealing. Unfortunately, the sushi was sub par for Green Bay, which says a lot. I know that we can't expect the freshest fish being so far north and in the middle of the US; but one could hope that the cut of the fish would be more appetizing than a slab of fish on some rice. It was disappointing to find that the place with so much promise fell short on execution.

Good menu for a local sushi place, and is one of the best lunchtime options if you work downtown. Service is not-so-good, but my orders arrive in time for me to eat and go back to work in under an hour. I really commend the efforts here, folks, the owner has worked hard to provide a proper menu for a sausage and beer community. The fish was not offensive, and my rolls have never disappointed. Cheers, to owner, Amy Lee. Great price, proper service, and clean environment will win me over every-time.

Wow, this place used to be so much better. The last couple times I've eaten at Little Tokyo have been very poor. I dined there this evening and it was pretty awful. The rolls were tiny, the rice had a funny taste to it and the fish was salty. All in all, I'd have to rate my meal as one of my worst sushi experiences ever. GB needs a good place to get sushi and this is definitely not it!

  • Angie K.

It was alright. I like a little more creativity with the ingredients in my maki rolls. I don't intend to return. I will just go to Gingerootz in Appleton when I want sushi or maybe Koko, which I will be trying next.
